Part 1: The Divine Union: Fatima and Ali's Marriage in the Heavens:

When Heaven Spoke to Earth
It was late in the day, and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ sat in calm reflection — the kind of stillness that often carried the weight of divine revelation. But this time, it wasn't Jibril who descended. A radiant angel appeared, clothed in celestial light, unlike any other ever seen. His form was overwhelming — he had not one, not two, but twenty-four faces, each face glowing with a different light.

The Prophet ﷺ gently asked, “Are you Jibril?”

The angel replied with reverence, “No, I am not Jibril. I am the one sent from the Heavens for a sacred mission. I have been sent to unite two lights — Fatima and Ali. This marriage is not of this world; it was decreed long before time began.”

The Prophet's ﷺ heart stirred. He asked,, “Since when has this decree been written?”

The angel said, “Ya Rasulullah, it was inscribed 22,000 years before Allah created Adam. This union was destined before creation itself.”

Hadith Reference: Narrated in Al-Kafi, Vol. 1, pp. 460–461. This hadith emphasizes that the marriage of Fatima (sa) and Ali (as) was an event etched into the divine plan long before the creation of humanity.

A Marriage Declared Among the Stars
As time passed, the people around began to wonder. Why had Ali, the lion of Allah, not yet married? And when the Prophet ﷺ finally announced the engagement of Fatima to Ali, murmurs echoed in the air.

Some questioned, “Why such a simple dowry? Why such a quiet wedding?”

But the Prophet ﷺ, smiling gently, lifted the veil from this mystery.

He said, “You think this marriage was done by my hand? No. Allah Himself gave Fatima in marriage to Ali, from the seventh heaven, beneath the Lote Tree of the Furthest Boundary, during the night of Mi'raj (ascension). The angels were witnesses. I am only fulfilling it now on the earth.”

This wasn't merely a wedding — it was a cosmic decree, echoed through the stars.

Hadith Reference: Narrated in al-Amali and referenced by al-Maaref, this hadith confirms that the nikah of Ali and Fatima was first performed in the Heavens before its earthly declaration.

Jewels from the Gardens of Paradise
On the eve of the wedding, Umm Ayman — a close companion and beloved motherly figure in the Prophet's household — wept softly in a corner. When asked why, she replied, “O Messenger of Allah, in every wedding I've attended, I've seen the bride showered with jewels, perfumes, and silks. But your daughter—she has none of that.”

The Prophet ﷺ, with the serenity of certainty, responded:

“Umm Ayman, what this world failed to offer, Paradise has already given. Allah has commanded the trees of Jannah to shed their treasures. Pearls, rubies, emeralds, and fine brocade have rained upon Ali and Fatima. And do you know what her mahr is? It is the fragrance of the Tree of Tuba, a gift from Paradise itself.”

That night, unseen to the world, angels dressed the heavens with divine ornaments, and the stars themselves seemed to shine brighter, as if in celebration.

Hadith Reference: This is found in Al-Amali by Shaykh al-Saduq and documented in Al-Kafi — that Fatima's dowry was not of this earth, but of Paradise itself.

A Wedding Like No Other
Then came the day. The mosque of the Prophet ﷺ was filled with companions, waiting for the blessed announcement. The Prophet ﷺ rose, his face shining with divine joy. The crowd fell silent.

He declared:
“O people! Know that Allah has commanded me to marry Fatima to Ali. This marriage was performed in the heavens, with thousands of angels as witnesses. I now fulfill His command on the earth. I marry my daughter, the leader of all women in Paradise, to my brother and my cousin, the Lion of Allah, Ali ibn Abi Talib.”

It is said that 40,000 angels descended that day to witness the earthly ceremony — the same who had already witnessed its heavenly counterpart. There was joy not just in Medina, but in the skies above, as if all of creation paused to honor this sacred union.

Hadith Reference: This narration is recorded in Dalā'il al-Imāma by al-Ṭabarī and supported by numerous other sources. It confirms that the nikah was conducted with the full approval and decree of Allah, flocked by multitudes of angels.
